Google AI Mode Adds Direct Home Services Booking Through Partner Platforms
Source: Search Engine Journal

  • Google is letting home service businesses accept bookings and quote requests from AI Mode via partners, with Search Product VP Robby Stein saying it is live in the U.S.
    • Marketplaces Angi and Thumbtack
    • Field service software Housecall Pro and Jobber
    • ServiceTitan listed as coming soon
  • Jobber and Housecall Pro both say the bookings carry no lead fees, contrasting with Google's own Local Services Ads that charge for a booking request as a lead.
  • Qualification rules differ by platform. Jobber requires an active paid subscription, a full address, and a connected Google Business Profile, while Housecall Pro auto-enrolls pros and says no Google Business Profile is required.
  • Jobber's help page says collecting client reviews and using a booking form rather than a request form can help a business get recommended in AI Mode more often.
  • A business on none of the listed platforms has no route to direct bookings through AI Mode.

Banks and Retailers Split Three Ways on Handling AI Shopping Agents
Source: Search Engine Journal

  • 3 companies answered the AI agent question differently in October. JPMorgan Chase blocks outside agents, Bank of America leaves the risk with customers who share logins, and Walmart is giving each agent a separate profile.
  • Walmart's Agent Profiles give each agent a dedicated profile inside the customer's account, with per-purchase approval or a set spending limit such as $50, $100 or $200, and agents that break its rules get blocked.
  • The Verge reported Charles Schwab also blocks agents and Delta prevents them from booking tickets, while 1Password for Agents fills logins into the sign-in form instead of handing them to the agent.
  • Agent volume is still small. DoorDash CEO Tony Xu said outside agents placed maybe several hundred orders in a quarter where DoorDash handled 993 million.
  • Before agents arrive in numbers, check how your bot protection treats them today, decide your policy and write it down, and watch for agents that sign requests via Web Bot Auth to prove which company runs them.

Technical SEO

The SEO Features Every CMS Should Ship With but Most Still Don't
Source: Search Engine Journal

  • Many CMS platforms still miss baseline SEO controls, forcing SEOs to file the same dev tickets repeatedly. 3 systems this year needed a developer just to implement canonical tags, which Google, Microsoft and Yahoo announced together in 2009.
  • WordPress out of the box offers no way to edit robots.txt, exclude pages from the sitemap, or noindex individual pages, and Shopify blocks removing market-specific URLs from auto-generated sitemaps.
  • A redirect and status code manager should include guardrails, which matter most. A single stray pipe character in a regex redirect rule once matched every URL and took down an entire site.
    • Choice of 301, 302, 307/308 and 410 codes
    • Regex rules and query string control
    • Loop protection and scheduled expiry
  • Image handling should keep one stable URL per image, convert to WebP or AVIF on upload, add width and height attributes to prevent CLS, and lazy load all but the first image.
  • Modern workflows increasingly run through MCP or CLI connections. Running WordPress via Claude Code and CLI lets content and dev changes happen outside the editor, with testing guardrails in place.

Search Console Performance Report Adds Multi-Select Device Filters
Source: Search Engine Roundtable

  • Google Search Console now lets users select multiple device types at once in the performance report across desktop, mobile and tablet, rather than one at a time.
  • The change follows multi-select for countries added to the same report a month earlier.

Reddit Plans Logged-In Experience as Search Traffic Declines
Source: Search Engine Journal

  • Reddit said in its Q3 shareholder letter and earnings call that it will begin testing a logged-in experience in select markets outside the U.S. during Q4, while keeping shared links and some access for search visitors working.
  • Reddit reported an average of 515.2 million weekly active uniques in Q3, and a May 2026 Reddit/Attest survey of 13,956 U.S. adults found half verify AI recommendations on Reddit.
  • CEO Steve Huffman said the search traffic decline accelerated during Q3 and continued into October, pointing to Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode plus lower rankings for machine-translated content.
  • Pew's March 2025 study found users clicked a traditional result on 8% of visits with an AI summary versus 15% without, and a link inside the summary got a click on just 1% of visits.
  • Huffman said data licensing talks continue, including access for training and in-product use, with no new deal announced and the option to decline left open.

Google Drops Site Reputation Abuse Manual Actions for EEA Users
Source: Search Engine Roundtable

  • Google emailed sites with site reputation abuse manual actions to say those actions no longer affect search results shown to users within the EEA, a change that took effect August 30, 2026 and is only now being notified.
  • Glenn Gabe reported the emails also went to sites that no longer have an active SRA manual action but did at some point in the past, with a related message showing in the Search Console manual actions viewer.
  • Google created the site reputation abuse policy alongside the March 2024 core update to fight Parasite SEO, and began enforcing it in Europe in January 2025.
